June 15, 2016

The FDA and other international regulators and law enforcement agencies have joined forces to crack down on illegal online drug distributors, requesting the suspension of 4,402 websites that sell illegal and potentially counterfeit products to U.S. consumers.

Last week, the FDA announced a chain of actions taken including, a stream of inspections conducted between May 31 and June 7, seizing drugs received through the International Mail Facilities in San Francisco, New York and Chicago.

The agency also issued warning letters to 53 website operators for selling unapproved and misbranded drugs to U.S. consumers. The action was a joint effort between the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations, the Office of Regulatory Affairs and CDER.
