Health Canada Approves Abbott’s Absorb Stent

Health Canada has approved Abbott’s Absorb bioresorbable heart stent, which is designed to treat patients with coronary artery disease.

Compared to permanent stents, Absorb dissolves within three years and doesn’t constrain vessel movement.

“Its novel technology means that once the stent has dissolved, the treated artery can pulse and flex as demands on the heart change with everyday activities,” said Philippe L’Allier, director of interventional cardiology at Montreal Heart Institute. — Anisa Jibrell
