Novartis Officials Accused in Korea Over $2.34 Million in Kickbacks
August 15, 2016
Seoul’s Western District Prosecutors’ Office has indicted a handful of Novartis’ Korean executives for providing 2.59 billion won — approximately $2.34 million — to doctors in return for choosing the company’s products.
According to the investigators, from January 2011 to the beginning of 2016, executives provided doctors with financial support through medical publications, in violation of the country’s policies. In addition to the executives, six publishers of medical journals and 15 doctors also have been indicted.
“Novartis acknowledges the indictment and the company launched its own internal investigation immediately on being alerted to the issues raised by the prosecutor,” a company official stated.
