Clinton Reveals Plan to Hold Drugmakers Responsible for Price Surges

September 9, 2016

Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has unveiled a plan to rein in exorbitant drug costs for lifesaving treatments that would penalize drugmakers for price-gouging.

Clinton’s proposal calls for drugmakers behind unwarranted price hikes to pay fines that would funnel revenue toward initiatives to stabilize drug prices and would create an oversight committee of federal agency representatives.

The proposal does not explicitly say which agencies would be involved in the enforcement panel, but suggests that public health and other agencies would participate.
