Grassley Urges DOJ to Testify on Mylan Settlement

November 22, 2016

Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) is calling on the Justice Department to reconsider testifying before the House Judiciary Committee on its settlement with Mylan, which resolved allegations that the company overcharged Medicaid for its allergy therapy, the EpiPen.

The head of the Justice Department’s civil division declined to attend the Nov. 30 hearing, citing the agency’s “longstanding practice” to not comment on pending settlements and investigations.

“It’s hard to understand why the Justice Department won’t testify about allegedly hundreds of millions of dollars in overcharges to the taxpayers,” Grassley said. “Accountability requires getting answers about why the overcharges happened and what, if anything, is being done to make sure the taxpayers are repaid for their losses and to keep this from happening again.”
