EU’s ENVI Committee Approves Report to Improve to Drug Access

The European Parliament’s committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety voted to approve a draft report that includes dozens of recommendations for improving how the EU promotes access to medicine and handles safety, intellectual property, and pricing issues.

The draft report includes a call for EU-wide measures to reinforce the negotiation capacities of member states to achieve fair drug prices.

The draft also calls on the European Commission to review the regulatory framework for orphan medicines and to guarantee safety and efficacy in any fast-track approval process.
