Senate Dems Walk Out of Committee Vote on Tom Price, Delaying Confirmation

February 7, 2017

Senate Democrats boycotted a committee vote to advance the nomination of President Donald Trump’s pick to be the next secretary of HHS, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), delaying the confirmation process.

Without a single Democratic member present to provide a quorum, the Senate Finance Committee was forced to postpone its initial confirmation vote. Had they proceeded, Price would still have to be considered by the Senate as a whole.

The committee’s Democratic members said they would not vote until they received more information on Price’s stock purchases in Innate Immunotherapeutics, an Australian biotechnology company, and other trades of health care stocks made while Price was chairman of the House Budget Committee.
