FDA to Post Unredacted Advisory Committee CVs, Following Public Citizen Lawsuit

February 9, 2017

The FDA will no longer redact the CVs of its advisory committee members, in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Public Citizen last year.

As part of the selection process for advisory committee members, nominees will have to submit a form consenting to the publication of their CV, and state that it contains no confidential information. This change also applies to current advisory committee members, who typically update their CVs annually.

Public Citizen sued the FDA and HHS in April 2016, arguing the redactions were unjustified and could hide potential conflicts of interest or problematic relationships with the regulated industry.
