Gottlieb Tops Drugmaker Poll to be Next FDA Commissioner

Former FDA deputy commissioner Scott Gottlieb emerged as the favorite to serve as the next leader of the FDA in a survey of 53 pharmaceutical companies.

Seventy-two percent of the respondents to the survey, conducted by Mizuho Securities USA, said they would prefer Gottlieb, who is among the candidates under consideration by the Trump administration.

Many respondents named Gottlieb as the safest choice for both the agency and the industry, as the White House intends to push for faster approvals and dramatic cuts in regulations.
