Eli Lilly, Merck, Pfizer and Celgene CEOs Back Republican-Led Tax Reform

March 3, 2017

Pharmaceutical executives from the nation’s leading firms are urging Congressional leaders to pass a Republican-led tax reform that would allow companies to pay lower taxes.

The CEOs of Eli Lilly, Merck, Pfizer and Celgene joined 12 executives from other industries to form the Made in America Coalition, a group that will advocate for an overhaul of the nation’s current tax code, which the companies say encourages imports and penalizes companies that make, sell and export products from the United States.

The reform, which is championed by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Ways & Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas), would subject imports to a tax of 20 percent — while exports would be tax free — and lower the corporate tax rate from 35 to 20 percent.
