NIH Offering Grants to Test Previously Studied Compounds in New Therapeutic Uses

March 3, 2017

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences is taking applications to explore new therapeutic uses for previously studied compounds. The center plans to fund six to ten grants, totaling $6 million, in collaboration with AstraZeneca and Janssen Research & Development.

Researchers are asked to submit letters of intent by March 17, and pre-applications by April 17. The NIH-Industry Partnerships initiative program focuses on compounds that have already cleared several steps in the research pipeline, and on testing their use against new diseases and indications. The grants are open to U.S. academic, government and industry applicants.

A complete list of the compounds available for testing, initially developed by AstraZeneca and Janssen—including safety information, available clinical trials data, and overviews of mechanisms of action in the original studied indications.
