Trump Targets FDA Approval Process in First Speech to Congress

In his first address to Congress last week, President Trump called for faster and more frequent drug approvals, and labeled the FDA’s review process as “slow and burdensome.”

Trump portrayed the agency as emblematic of broader regulatory impediments, saying if the government was to “slash the restraints,” then patients would see “more miracles.”

He also directed Congress to work to bring down the high price of prescription drugs, although his speech lacked specifics.
