20 States Join Antitrust Lawsuit Accusing 6 Generics Makers of Price Collusion

March 9, 2017

Twenty states have joined an antitrust lawsuit accusing six generics makers of colluding to fix the price of generic versions of antibiotic doxycycline hyclate and the diabetes drug glyburide.

Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen amended the complaint against Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Aurobindo, Citron Pharma, Heritage Pharmaceuticals, Mayne Pharma and Teva Pharmaceutical — which was filed in December by 20 states — to include alleged violations of state antitrust laws from California, Arizona, New Jersey and 17 other states.

The amended complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, is part of a larger Justice Department investigation into price hikes on generic drugs, Jepsen said. In December, the Justice Department filed the first criminal charges against the executives of a generics company for conspiring to raise prices.
