Abbott Gains CE Mark for Smartphone-Compatible Insertable Cardiac Monitor

May 8, 2017

Abbott has received a CE mark for its Confirm Rx insertable cardiac monitor (ICM), a smartphone compatible device that helps physicians identify difficult to detect cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation to help guide therapy.

The Confirm Rx ICM is designed to continuously monitor a patient's heart rhythm and proactively transmit information via the myMerlin mobile app, allowing physicians can monitor their patients remotely.

Patients can record symptoms on a smartphone and specify events such as fainting or a fast heart rate. The patients can confirm their data was transmitted to their physician and get automatic alerts when they miss a scheduled transmission.

The device is currently under review by the FDA. — Cynthia Jessup
