XpandOrtho Gains FDA Clearance for Its Electronic Soft Tissue Balancing Instrument

XpandOrtho has received FDA clearance for its electronic soft tissue balancing instrument for total knee replacement surgery.

The wireless device uses multiple miniaturized sensors and actuators to balance the knee joint during a full range of motion.

The instrument uses a constant pressure bellows system which wirelessly communicates with a display to provide multiaxial balance and selection of optimal thickness of the tibial component.

The disposable device can preserve an electronic record of the 3D balance of the knee at the end of the surgical procedure. — Cynthia Jessup
