Ohio Becomes Second State to Sue Opioid Manufacturers

June 6, 2017

Ohio’s attorney general filed a lawsuit against Purdue Pharma, Endo Health Solutions, Teva, Johnson & Johnson and Allergan, alleging they contributed to the opioid epidemic through fraudulent advertising.

The suit claims the manufacturers misled prescribers on the addictiveness of their products.

The lawsuit accuses the companies of violating Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act as well as disseminating inaccurate information — in formats including medical journal advertising, statements by sales representatives, and by downplaying the danger their drugs presented through the use of front groups.

The attorney general is seeking injunctions against similar behavior, as well as financial compensation for both consumers and the state.
