Mylan, Sandoz, Teva and 10 Other Generics Makers Named in Six Price-Fixing Lawsuits

June 9, 2017

A pharmacy chain brought class action suits against 13 generics manufacturers — including Mylan, Sandoz, and Teva — claiming they conspired to raise prices of six drugs, including blood pressure medications, antidepressants and corticosteroids.

The litigation is the latest in a string of price-fixing lawsuits and government investigations involving the companies and products.

Pharmacy operator KPH Healthcare Services said the manufacturers colluded at trade association meetings and shows to short circuit market competition and dramatically raise prices of generic medications in 2013 and 2014 — specifically baclofen, desonide, clobetasol, clomiparine, benazepril and amitriptyline.

Following 2013 meetings hosted by GPhA, since renamed the Association for Accessible Medicines, the national average drug acquisition costs of the six drugs skyrocketed over periods as short as a few weeks, KPH said, based on the findings from a 2016 GAO report.
