Device Reprocessing Market to Reach $1.7 Billion by 2022

The worldwide medical device reprocessing market is projected to more than double to $1.75 billion by 2022.

The trend toward cheaper reprocessed devices rather than new devices will drive the growth, as will increased efforts to reduce regulated medical waste and more surgical procedures tied to the increase in chronic conditions. However, concerns that reprocessed devices are associated with surgical site infection risks may hinder these efforts.

Regulatory bodies’ changing attitudes toward reprocessing is expected to drive much of the growth, particularly in the wake of European Union regulations ending a prohibition on France outsourcing reprocessing. Japan, meanwhile, has no reprocessing regulations currently on the books.
