Gottlieb Appoints Sherman to No. 2 Job at FDA

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has elevated Rachel Sherman to the No. 2 job at the agency, principal deputy commissioner.

Sherman has served as associate deputy commissioner for medical products and tobacco at the agency since October 2015. She will continue to function in that role in parallel with her new position.

Sherman’s focus as principal deputy will include establishing the Oncology Center for Excellence and the combination policy council, oversight of the EvGen initiative, the Food Clinical Practice program and pediatric therapeutics and modernizing advisory committees, the FDA said.
