Pfizer Wins Prevnar13 Patent in India Over Aid Group’s Objections

India granted a patent to Pfizer for a pneumonia vaccine over the objections of an international medical aid organization.

The decision to grant the patent for the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine Prevnar13 “blocks other manufacturers in India from making and supplying more affordable versions of the vaccine to those who need it most,” according to Doctors Without Borders.

The vaccine protects against 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria.
