CDC Launches Opioid Addiction Education Campaign

September 28, 2017

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a new campaign to aid states in reducing opioid abuse.

The “Rx Awareness” campaign will rely on individual stories of people affected by prescription opioid addiction. The CDC conducted a small-scale pilot implementing the campaign for 14 weeks in nine high-burden counties across Rhode Island, West Virginia, Oregon and Ohio.

The pilot found most participants believed the content in the campaign’s videos, billboards and radio ads and most said they would share the video testimonials. Of the survey respondents, 70 percent reported seeing campaign billboards, compared to only 36 percent who saw an online video.
