October 30, 2017
John Kapoor, founder and majority owner of Insys Therapeutics, was arrested and charged with bribery and fraud in the illegal distribution of a fentanyl spray, an opioid intended to treat pain in cancer patients.
Kapoor, 74, was charged with leading a nationwide RICO conspiracy and other felonies, including conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Law.
The indictment against Kapoor also includes allegations against several former Insys executives and managers who were first charged in December 2016.
