Report Highlights FDA’s Problems in Hiring and Retaining Staff

November 17, 2017

The FDA’s process for hiring and retaining employees is plagued by incomplete documentation, complexity, uncertainty as to roles and responsibilities, inefficient technology and poor inter-agency communication, an internal report said.

The report, entitled “Initial Assessment of FDA Hiring and Retention,” was commissioned this year by Commissioner Scott Gottlieb as part of a review and overhaul of the process.

The agency will discuss the report at a public meeting later this month, Gottlieb said in a blog post. The results of the assessment will inform a pilot hiring program next year, he said.
