FTC Gets $179 Million Judgment Against Online Supplement Retailers for False Claims

The FTC secured a $179 million court order against three individuals behind a fraudulent network of online supplement marketing operations.

The defendants and the 19 companies they controlled sold more than 40 products with indications ranging from weight loss to wrinkle reduction.  

In addition to deceptive advertising and fraudulent celebrity testimonials, the defendants falsely claimed the products were supported by clinical study data.

The court order will be suspended after the defendants pay approximately $6.4 million to the FTC.
