DEA Moves Cyclopropyl Fentanyl Into Schedule I Through 2020

January 8, 2018

The Drug Enforcement Administration has temporarily designated synthetic opioid cyclopropyl fentanyl as a Schedule I controlled substance. The synthetic opioid has high abuse potential and no currently accepted medical use, the agency said.

The move comes shortly after a DEA proposed temporarily placing all fentanyl-related products into Schedule I.

The DEA took the action based on a finding that the drug presents an imminent public safety threat. It will be effective for two years, ending Jan. 4, 2020.
