Tufts: Growing Volumes of Clinical Data are Slowing Drug Development

January 11, 2018

Massive amounts of clinical trial data are lengthening drug development timelines as technical challenges create costly bottlenecks, according to a new industry survey from the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development.

The average amount of time to database lock, from the final site visit of a study’s last patient, increased from 33.4 days to 36.1 days over the last decade, according to the report.

Meanwhile, companies said it takes them just over 68 days, on average, to build and release a study database, with contract research organizations performing this task in a shorter amount of time compared to sponsors.
