India to Launch National Database for Drugmakers

April 6, 2018

India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization is creating a national database of pharmaceutical manufacturers, and will require reporting of facility and product details for inclusion in the database.

India does not currently have a central system for storing real-time information on drug manufacturers, instead depending on information gathered by the state authorities. CDSCO officials will meet with state regulators next week to discuss the database that is currently being finalized.

CDSCO says the database will help its efforts to ensure the safety and quality of drug products. Indian drug manufacturers in India have been frequent targets of both the U.S. FDA and the European Medicines Agency.
