Florida Reps Question Gottlieb on FDA Enforcement of Anti-Importation Rules

Florida lawmakers forwarded letters from medical professionals to FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb asking if the agency has overturned a policy allowing Americans to import certain drugs.

The agency raided several Florida stores last year and told the owners that importing drugs internationally is illegal. In their letter, Reps. Kathy Castor (D) and Gus Bilirakis (R) said the raids “appear to be inconsistent with previous exercises of discretion.”

The FDA said it intends to respond directly to the letter and another from members of the Senate on the same subject.
