Online Pharmacy Fined $34 Million for Counterfeit Drug Sales Into the U.S.

April 17, 2018

Canada Drugs, an online pharmacy based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was fined $34 million in a Montana federal court for sale of counterfeit cancer drug sales into the United States.

Two of the cancer drugs, versions of Avastin (bevacizumab) and Altuzan (bevacizumab), contained no active pharmaceutical ingredient, the prosecution alleged.

Judge Dana Christensen of the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana sentenced the company’s founder, Kris Thorkelson to six months' house arrest, five years' probation and a $250,000 fine.
