Utah to Sue Purdue Over the Opioid Crisis After Talks Fail

After the failure of settlement negotiations, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes announced the state will sue Purdue for violation of state laws involving its prescription opioids, including Oxycontin.

Reyes accused the drugmaker of misrepresentation or failure to disclose the risk of addiction and for falsely claiming doctors could increase prescribed dosages without risk.

The state may file lawsuits against additional defendants depending on the outcome of current investigations and settlement talks, according to the AG’s office.
