White House Proposes Name Change for FDA

June 22, 2018

The Trump administration is proposing to change the FDA’s name to the Federal Drug Administration and shift the agency’s food programs to the U.S. Department of Agriculture according to a broad government reform plan.

The proposed reform would move approximately 5,000 full-time equivalent employees and shift $1.3 billion in funding from the FDA over to the USDA.

HHS also would get a new name — the Department of Health and Public Welfare — and would take over non-commodity nutrition assistance programs from the USDA.
