FDA Approves Zephyr Endobronchial Valve

July 2, 2018

The FDA granted approval for PulmonX’s Zephyr endobronchial valve, used for treating breathing difficulties in patients with severe emphysema.

The device is placed in the lung airways of patients using a flexible bronchoscope during a hospital procedure.

The valves close during patient inhalation, keeping air from entering the damaged area of the lung and open during exhalation, releasing trapped air and relieving pressure.
