FDA Warns of Safety Risks from Contaminated Synthetic Cannabinoid Products

July 23, 2018

The FDA issued a warning over synthetic cannabinoid products contaminated with an anticoagulant commonly used in rat poison.

Hundreds of individuals in about 10 mostly Midwestern states were hospitalized due to complications associated with the anticoagulant, brodifacoum.

The unapproved products are often sold in convenience stories as marijuana substitutes. They pose public health concerns for the users but also for the U.S. blood supply in the event of blood donations, the agency said.
