Senators Probe Giuliani’s Relationship With Purdue Pharma

August 28, 2018

Two Democratic senators are investigating whether Rudy Giuliani’s relationship with Purdue Pharmaceuticals and the Department of Justice may have led to inappropriately lenient treatment for the drugmaker after it was accused of illegally marketing OxyContin.

Sens. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week to provide documents relating to contacts in 2006 and 2007 between Purdue Pharma, the DOJ and Giuliani Partners — Giuliani’s consulting firm — including any related to criminal probes of OxyContin sales.

The lawmakers noted Giuliani Partners represented Purdue while it also held a $1 million consulting contract to advise the Justice Department on its reorganization of drug investigations.
