Masimo’s Acoustic Monitoring Device Cleared by FDA

September 10, 2018

The FDA granted 510(k) clearance to Masimo’s RAS-45 acoustic respiration sensor for infant and neonatal patients.

The sensor measures the acoustic respiration rate of patients under 22 pounds by applying an adhesive sensor equipped with an acoustic transducer to the patient’s neck area.

The acoustic sensor allows clinicians to listen to the sound of the patient’s breathing, either through a point-of-care device or remotely from a view station. The size, weight and adhesive properties of the RAS-45 make the sensor better suited for infants.
