Branded Drugmakers Continue to Hike Prices

Prices increased for 4,400 branded drugs and were cut for only 50 this year, a new study found.

The Associated Press looked at 26,176 changes in list prices between Jan. 1 and July 31, 2018 and found 96 price hikes for every price cut. Of these, 395 of the increases and 24 of the cuts occurred in June and July, after President Trump in late May said that a “major drop in the cost of prescription drugs” would occur in coming weeks.

Rachel Schwartz, a spokesperson for the Association for Accessible Medicines, says the new analysis confirms “what we already know.”
