Former Health Care CEO Pleads Guilty in $150 Million Fraud Scheme

The former CEO of Tri-County Wellness Group pleaded guilty to a $150 million health care fraud scheme involving opioid overprescriptions.

Mashiyat Rashid pleaded guilty to one count each of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and wire fraud and money laundering. The scheme involved distribution of more than 6.6 million dosage units of controlled substances and administration of unnecessary injections and led to patient harm.

Rashid admitted to conspiring with doctors to require Medicare beneficiaries seeking controlled substances to submit to unnecessary injections, and to paying doctors based on the number of injections reimbursed by Medicare.
