Chinese Biotech Firm Fined $1.3 Billion in Rabies Vaccine Scandal

October 24, 2018

Chinese authorities hit Changchun Changsheng Biotechnology with penalties totaling $1.3 billion for problems with its rabies vaccines.

The company’s chairwoman as well as 14 other employees were arrested in connection with the scandal in July and the company was ordered to cease production of all rabies vaccines after it was caught fabricating records.

Changchun Changsheng was also accused of destroying hard drives to conceal illegal actions. Chinese authorities said they do not believe any of the compromised rabies vaccines entered the market.
