Doctor Pleads Guilty to Writing Illegal Prescriptions for Compounded Drugs

October 29, 2018

A doctor in Jacksonville, Florida pleaded guilty to receiving kickbacks for writing prescriptions for compounded creams to treat scars and pain, among other conditions. The creams, prescribed largely to TRICARE beneficiaries, cost on average more than $16,000 for a one-month supply.

Between Dec. 12, 2014 and Jan. 31, 2015, Agatep wrote 268 prescriptions for which TRICARE was billed approximately $4.4 million.

A marketing group paid the doctor $100 per patient to write the prescriptions, supplying names and phone numbers. He never saw the patients.
