Pfizer to Pay $40,000 to Settle Improper Donations to NC Legislature

October 30, 2018

Pfizer has reached an agreement with North Carolina’s State Board of Elections and Ethics to pay a $40,125 penalty for inappropriate campaign contributions.

The settlement covered 48 improper donations to both Republicans and Democrats from the drugmaker’s political action committee totaling $53,500 in the 2016 and 2017 legislative sessions. State law prohibits political contributions while the legislature is in session.

Pfizer did not confirm or deny the state’s findings in paying the penalty. In May, the drugmaker argued that the checks were not sent out or received during the prohibited period.
