NHS England Picks Up Glucose Monitors for Type 1 Diabetes Patients

NHS England announced that patients with type 1 diabetes will now be able to receive Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre wearable glucose monitors through the national health service.

The device, approximately the size of two stacked quarters, rests on the arm and removes the need for finger prick blood tests by sending patient test results directly to a reader device or mobile phone.

The device is now available on prescription for all patients that qualify through NHS’ clinical guidelines.
