Alimera Sciences’ Diabetic Macular Edema Implant OK’d in Canada

December 7, 2018

Health Canada has given the go-ahead for Alimera Sciences’ intravitreal implant for the treatment of diabetic macular edema.

The fluocinolone acetonide sustained release intravitreal implant has already been approved in the US to treat DME in patients who were previously given a course of corticosteroids and didn’t see a clinically significant rise in intraocular pressure.

The device is able to treat DME every day for up to three years through continuous microdosing.
