FDA Looks to Devices to Combat Opioid Crisis

CDRH has selected eight medical devices  and digital health technologies to help combat the growing opioid crisis in the United States.

The FDA launched an Innovation Challenge in May to spur development of devices, digital health technologies and diagnostics to help detect, treat, and prevent addiction. The agency received more than 250 applications from devicemakers.

Devices at all stages of development were eligible for the challenge, but firms needed to describe the novelty of their products, the development plan, the team that would be responsible for developing the device, the anticipated benefit to patients and the impact on public health.
