MHRA Calls for Labeling Updates for Emollient Creams

December 28, 2018

The MHRA recommended that labeling for medical device repairing emollient products be updated to include a fire hazard warning on their labels and product information.

The products should include “clear advice not to smoke or go near naked flames,” as well as information on “the risk of severe burn injury or death when clothing, bedding and dressings with emollients dried on them are accidentally ignited,” the MHRA said.

The agency warned users to avoid smoking and approaching open flames when using emollients due to the risk of severe burns.
