Washington State Requests ‘Winner-Take-All’ Hep C Drug Payment Models

The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) has requested proposals from drugmakers for a hepatitis C treatment payment model that takes a “winner take all” approach.

It called for competitive drug pricing in the proposals and an initial focus on state purchased healthcare programs. Following evaluation of the proposals, which are being accepted until March 4, the authority will announce the successful bidder, negotiate the contract and start contract work in early July.

Approximately 65,000 residents of the state live with chronic hepatitis C virus, and about 30,000 of them are covered by state-purchased health care insurance.
