Democrats Introduce Price Gouging Bill

A pair of Democratic senators, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, introduced legislation that would fine drug companies for “unjustified” price increases.

The Stop Price Gouging Act would require drug companies to report price increases and justify them publicly. It would then fine companies with unjustified increases in a manner “proportionate to the price spike.”

Brown and Gillibrand said the money from fines would be redirected to the National Institutes of Health, for drug research and development.
