California Pharmacy Owner Sentenced for Health Care FraudĀ

A Pasadena, California pharmacy owner was sentenced to prison after being convicted for her role in a plot that made fraudulent prescription drug claims.

Tamar Tatarian, who was found guilty of one count of health care fraud and two counts of wire fraud, was sentenced to 48 months in prison by U.S. District Judge John Walter of the Central District of California and must pay approximately $1.5 million in restitution to Medicare.

Tatarian was an owner of Akhtamar Pharmacy. From approximately Oct. 2015 through June 2018, she was part of a scheme that involved fraudulent claims submissions to Medicare Part D plan sponsors for drugs that the pharmacy never ordered or dispensed to beneficiaries.
