FDA Allows Marketing of Device for Carbon Monoxide Treatment

The FDA has given the green light for Thornhill Medical’s ClearMate, a device for use in emergency rooms for treating patients with carbon monoxide poisoning.

The mask device — which is made up of valves, meters, breathing circuits, a gas mixer and an oxygen reservoir — can quickly remove carbon monoxide from the body by increasing the patient’s rate of breathing.

ClearMate provides pure oxygen to the patient and a mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen, making the patient breathe faster to speed up the rate of carbon dioxide exiting the body.
