Florida Pharmacist Gets Ten Years for Massive Drug Compounding Fraud

March 28, 2019

A Florida pharmacist convicted for his role in a huge compounding pharmacy fraud scheme was sentenced to ten years in prison and ordered to pay millions in restitution.

Ademola Adebayo was convicted January 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on three counts of healthcare fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and wire fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The Department of Justice claimed the fraud scheme swindled Medicare and TRICARE out of $121 million from 2012 to 2015 by sending them false claims for compounded drugs—mainly pain creams, scar creams and other “medically unnecessary” prescription drugs.
