Regulators Warn Web Site Operators for Online Opioid Sales

April 9, 2019

The FDA issued warning letters to two web site operators for selling misbranded and unapproved opioids online, ordering them to immediately cease selling the violative drugs to U.S. customers.

The FDA said that Azmedicinalshop.com has been selling tramadol as “Tramajack-100” and Thedonrx.net has been selling the drug as “Contramal.” The agency publicly posted the March 27 warnings on April 2 as it convened its second “online opioid summit”—a closed forum with invited stakeholders.

“Cutting off this illicit internet traffic is critical,” outgoing Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in public remarks after the closed session.

“The illicit sale of opioids online is a particularly critical concern as the nature of the epidemic shifts from one where new addiction was primarily formed in the medical setting, to a crisis where more and more of the new exposure is through illicit drugs,” he said.
